My 2004.5 Polaris Sportsman 500HO Green
FAQ:
1. You've added so many mods ... what order would you do them in?
Winch (2500lb or greater)
Stick Stoppers
Nerf Bars
Water Temp Gauge
These are also my top four "must have" items for any Polaris Sportsman rider.
2. You say that you trail ride and you have the sway bar disconnect ... these two things don't seam to go together?
At the places I ride, you don't have much of a chance to go over 30MPH and the ride enhancement of the sway bar disconnect is well worth keeping it under 30MPH.
3. I see you got the HighLifter Temp Gauge ... was it hard to install?
No, I like to keep everything nice and neat ... so it took me about 2 hours to install. I put the T-fitting in the upper radiator hose to help keep it out of the mud and water. I also soldered all connections and used heat tubing to make all the connections as water tight as I could.
4. Why did you lower the rear winch?
It was to high and didn't transfer the load of pulling to the frame very well. This move has also helped lower the center of gravity and I was able to add an rear bumper.
5. How did you keep the front end up with all that weight?
I've installed Sportsman 700 front springs ... they were $45.00 a pair from my dealer. The machine now rides just like it did before adding the winch and brush guard.
6. My sportsman keeps over heating on the trail and I don't ride in the mud ... how do you keep yours from over heating.
All Polaris Sportsman's need to have the fan to running when they get to 190 degs and the radiator must be 75% clear. If either of these aren't true then it will over heat (the HOT light comes on at 210 degs). Make sure that you clean the radiator after every ride; dust, snow, and mud will clog the radiator faster then you think. Remove the radiator screen by pulling on the two upper handles and then the bottom from around the tow bar. Don't use a pressure washer, use a plain old hose and clean the radiator from top to bottom ... making sure that the water is flowing completely though the radiator.
7. Why haven't you update this site lately?
Well, my dad and I had been building an airplane over 4 years ... since we finished it, I've flown ALOT more than rode. Be assured I'm not giving up on the site ... just adding things at a much slow pace. See our airplane here!
More to come!
